What is individual psychotherapy?

Individual psychotherapy is a personal, one-on-one process involving a therapist and a client, aimed at assisting the client in overcoming personal challenges, emotional struggles, or mental health concerns, as well as promoting personal development. Each session is dedicated to exploring the individual's experiences and the resulting thoughts, feelings and emotions.  

What can I expect during a therapy session?

At Inward Focus, our therapy sessions provide a secure and confidential space for you to freely share your thoughts and emotions. Our therapists are committed to listening carefully, providing support, and working together with you to discover solutions and encourage personal.

How long does therapy usually take?

The duration of therapy depends on the specific needs and goals of the individual group. Some concerns may be resolved in short-term therapy (6–12 sessions), while others may necessitate a longer commitment. Progress is consistently evaluated with the therapist identify the most effective way to proceed

How is couples therapy different from individual therapy?

Couples therapy involves two people in a romantic or committed relationship working with a therapist to address relationship issues, improve communication, rebuild trust, or navigate changes. Unlike individual therapy, the focus is on the relationship dynamics rather than on just one person’s experiences.

When should a family consider family therapy?

Family therapy is suggested for families with ongoing conflicts, communication issues, significant life changes (like divorce or moving), or for those who are dealing with the effects of mental health or substance use disorders on the family dynamic. Its purpose is to enhance understanding and teamwork among family members.

What happens during group therapy sessions?

In group therapy, a few individuals gather with a therapist to talk about common challenges such as depression, anxiety, grief, or addiction. Participants share their experiences, offer feedback to one another, and gain insights from the group dynamic, creating an environment of support and new strategies.

Are sessions covered by Insurance?

Many extended health benefits cover the cost of psychotherapy / mental health services.  However, not all services are provided so it is best to check with your benefits to ensure that they cover services by a social worker or psychotherapist.

Do you direct bill insurance?

At this point, we do not direct bill insurance providers with the exception of WSIB, NIHB, Medavie Blue Cross / Veterans Affairs Canada.  

A receipt is provided at the time of payment for you to claim with your insurance providers with most claims being reimbursed within 3-5 days.
